Chat is the happiest dog I've ever known. He sees the cup not as half-full, but as overflowing! He is quite vocal (appropriately named) and will tell us a story every day when we come home from work, singing and howling, barking and growling through his 5-minute narrative. He is not very serious, as is evidenced by his "casual ears" and the fact that he "can't hold his licker" -- kissing everyone he meets. If teased, he stands perpendicular to you, ears back and "singing" until he turns to pounce on you!
Chat LOVES to course -- plastic bags, real bunnies, squirrels, birds on the beach, or kitties in the neighborhood. He's happy doing it all, smiling as he runs around the course. Just don't mention any of these activities if you aren't going to take him -- you'll have more exuberance than you know what to do with!
As a house dog and companion, he is very sweet, preferring to be on your lap if at all possible. Or, if you aren't ready for 90 pounds in your lap, he'll just put his head there and relax, a "mini-hug" to tell you he loves you and trusts you. We visit homebound people in our neighborhood and he's happy to sit and be the object of affection for a time.
Chat is not a counter surfer or particularly food-motivated, as many Ridgebacks are known to be, but will put his head under your elbow as you eat to tell you he's available should you need any help. He's never taken anything from the table, though he could if he wanted.
